The Hastings Family

I love getting to capture this family over and over again. It’s so fun watching their boys grow up. They are all full of personality and it gets better every time we meet. This time we met on Okaloosa Island for their family photos. The sunset was perfect and the boys were too cute.

The best time to do an Okaloosa Island family photos session is late fall to early winter.

Everyone wants sunset photos on the beach but timing is important. If you want the best sunset photos, you need to plan your session at the right time. My personal favorite is winter but it can get a littly chilly so the next best option is late fall. There are three main reasons why I think fall and winter are the best seasons for Okaloosa Island family photos.

Three Reasons for Fall Family Photos

First, it’s not nearly as hot as it is in the middle of summer. The heat in July and August is almost unbearable. It takes only a few minutes for you to start sweating through your clothes. I know it’s the most popular time for vacations but it’s not the most ideal time for family beach photos.

Second, it’s off season. There may be some vacationers but the beaches are not nearly as packed as our high tourist season. This is especially true if you come after Labor Day weekend. Less tourists means less half naked bodies we have to dodge. I do my best to edit out as many people as I can but the more people there are, the harder that is to do.

Third, the sun sets over the water. This is what makes the fall and winter susnets so beautiful. You can really see the sunset and it reflects over the water. The sun set behind the condos and buildings and land during the summer months. It’s nice but it’s just not the same. Fall and winter create the most beautiful sunsets that are perdect for family beach photo sessions.
